The year of the Rat started on Saturday, January 25, 2020. This is the day of the Chinese New Year in 2020. Every year it's a different animal's turn and the Chinese New Year is on a different day. It always falls somewhere between January 21 and February 21. Last year we had the year of the Pig and next year we will have the year of the Ox. The Chinese new year depends on the lunar / sun calendar. This calendar is more than 4000 years old. That means for the Chinese, the year 4717 has just begun.

The Rat is the first sign of the 12 that are used in the Chinese zodiac. Other animals in the zodiac are tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig.
