The LEGO House

In the Summer of 2013 the plans of LEGO® for the construction of an Experience Centre were announced. The renowned architectural firm BIG that developed the design, was inspired by the African saying that a village is required to raise a child. The LEGO House should be a village where children can play and learn. Inspired by the LEGO® brick and the philosophy behind the construction concept, the LEGO House consists of interlocking and overlapping buildings and spaces. The separate parts together form a whole, like LEGO.

One year later, in August 2014, the construction started, in October 2015 the highest point was achieved. Once the LEGO House will be opened in September, we will have a large (2.000 m2) “cloud” of LEGO bricks that fit into each other”, says architect Bjarke Ingels. Besides office space, the LEGO House will have four experience fields and a gallery for master pieces. For these attractions a ticket will be required. The LEGO House will be open to public, free of charge, promises Jesper Vilstrup, General Manager of the LEGO House.

Of course LEGO included her own LEGO House in the LEGO® Architecture line. That’s pretty remarkable. First of all, as it is the first building in this line which didn’t exist yet when it was launched. Besides, the LEGO set 4000010 will only be available in Billund. This special edition will only be supplied to shops near the construction site of the LEGO House.
