Go back in time with these two fun LEGO® floppy disk MOCs!

Nostalgia! Did you used to work with floppy disks? Are you a millennial and don't even know what a floppy disk is? These devices were used a lot decades ago, but nowadays you hardly see them anymore. Of course, you can still build them with LEGO® and Youtuber Kos Brick did a cool job in the two movies below!

A floppy disk is a form of storage for digital data, such as a computer file. Floppy disks were very popular among computer users a few decades ago. The floppy disk was invented in 1967 by the company IBM as a cheaper alternative to a hard disk, which was very expensive at the time. Although floppy disks used to be very common, today they are not very practical. Most of them can only hold a few MB of data.

Floppy disks also used to be used often to install computer programmes. Because most programs were a lot bigger than a few MB's, you needed more than one floppy disk. You had to insert one floppy disk at a time in order to install the programme step by step. Of course, we can no longer imagine this process today.

The 5.25 inch floppy disk was one of the most widely used floppy disks in the 1970s. This disk was also available in different capacities. This varied from 160 kB to 1.2 MB.

We would like to thank Kos Brick for these two cool MOC's. Thanks to his free building tutorials you can now build these two floppy disk MOCs all by yourself! Be sure to visit his Youtube channel for more cool LEGO® videos!
