Review: LEGO® DREAMZzz Grimkeeper the Cage Monster 71455

Grimkeeper the cage monster has caught Cooper in the dream world and he wants to take him to the Nightmare King. But luckily Mateo and Z-Blob can defeat the monster to save Cooper and the dream world. The LEGO® DreamZzz set Grimkeeper the Cage Monster 71455 includes two minifigures and a large figure of the Grimkeeper. Z-Blob can be converted as a mini plane to confront the bad guy or a hoverbike to chase, intercept and free the Grimkeeper with.

What's in the box

71455 Grimkeeper the Cage Monster is a smaller set compared to the other LEGO® DreamZzz sets and contains a total of 3 bags of LEGO® parts and, of course, the instruction booklet. Of course, you can also use the LEGO® Builder app to build LEGO® DreamZzz sets.

Build

We start by building Cooper. Cooper grew up with Mateo but as Cooper became increasingly popular at school, they grew further and further apart. Would the dream world bring them closer together again? Let's get on with building the Grimkeeper first. Once you've finished building Bag 1, you'll have the body with the cage ready in which you can later lock Cooper up.

Bag two contains by far the most LEGO® parts of this set and with these you will build the legs, arms and head of this monster. The hinges used allow you to position this figure nicely. The Grim Reaper also has a lamp with wings that you can attach to his hand.

Fly or ride?

The last bag contains Mateo and Z-Blob. Z-Blob is a creature that can change into different things. Thus, in this set you can choose what form you will build Z-Blob in: a mini plane, or will you build a hoverbike? We made the latter version. Both forms have elements you can shoot at in order to attack the Grim Reaper and free Cooper.

The Minifigures

There are 3 minifigures in this set according to the box. But Z-Blob is a transparent light green 2x2 dome printed with 2 eyes. So whether we can call this a real minifigure. Opinions are divided on that. Mateo has dark grey trousers with red shoes and printing, a loose green belt and a blue torso with printing on two sides. His little head has a grinning face on one side and a smiling face on the other. Of course, this version of Mateo also has his signature dreadlock hairdo with green accents. Of course, he has his pencil made out of loose parts and his hourglass with him again. Then we have Cooper. Cooper has standard dark blue legs without printing and a red torso with a jacket motif. His little head is printed with a sleeping face on one side and a grinning face on the other. He also has a lush light yellow hairdo.

What we think

The construction of the Grimkeeper feels solid, but it is a bit bare. It is not as nicely finished as most other models in the LEGO® DreamZzz series. It is otherwise true to the series though and is easily recognisable. By using sturdy hinges, you can position this model nicely and it stays solid.

Episode with the Grim Reaper

The Grim Reaper can already be seen in the first episode of the series at the end and in the second episode at the beginning. It will appear more often in the other episodes. Watch the first episode again below to see what the Grimkeeper looks like in the series.
