It has been 25 years since the first LEGO® video game came out. In December 1995 LEGO® Fun to Build saw the light on the Sega Pico. In the last 25 years, more than 80 commercial LEGO® video games have appeared. To celebrate this joyful event, LEGO® has released a special podcast series Bits N 'Bricks. You can read more about this podcast in this blog post.
First, though, let's go back in time with some footage of the very first LEGO® video game Fun to Build. This game came out on the Sega Pico and for readers who have consciously experienced the 90s, the graphics and sounds are very recognizable.
Fun to Build has not made it to the top 5 most popular LEGO® video games, because according to LEGO® itself, these are the 5 best-selling LEGO® video games of the last 25 years (in no particular order):
LEGO® Marvel™ Super Heroes
LEGO® Harry Potter™: Years 1-4
LEGO® Star Wars™: The Complete Saga
LEGO® Batman™: The Video Game
LEGO® Batman™ 2: DC Super Heroes
A lot has happened in 25 years of course and that is why LEGO® launched the podcast show Bits N 'Bricks. This podcast is presented by Brian Crecente and Ethan Vincent and in the podcast, they dive into the history of LEGO® video games. How did best sellers come about and which projects were never released? You get a look (or listen) behind the scenes at LEGO®. Before making the podcast, the presenters did more than a year of research in which they conducted 120 interviews and examined 50 video games.
You can find the podcast on the LEGO® website and via other major podcast platforms.
