LEGO® recently launched the new theme VIDIYO which allows you to create your own videos with LEGO. Four ToyPro colleagues liked this so much that they got to work and produced their own ToyPro LEGO® VIDIYO video. You can watch the result below.
The ToyPro VIDIYO video was produced by Jennifer De Graaff (art director), Luc De Graaff (assistant director), Niels Custers (concept design + production) and Gwen Collignon (production editing).
During the making of the video ToyPro could immediately try out the new VIDIYO app. The application had several nice features, but we also ran into some limitations.
For example, you need a fairly new smartphone or tablet to use the app. If you don't have one, you will unfortunately get the following message.
Also, the VIDIYO app takes (too) much memory from your smartphone. Furthermore, we find that the application is currently still on the slow side and you have to take quite a few steps to get to the right menu.
LEGO® promotes VIDIYO as being child-friendly and we can only applaud this. The downside, however, is that certain fun functionality of TiKToK, for example, is not included in this LEGO® app. For example, it is very difficult to share a video with family and friends. We got the feeling that the app is so closed off that it limits your creativity a bit. Does that make the accompanying building sets any less fun? Mmm, ... the display and the minifigs are pretty funny, though. The LEGO® VIDIYO sets are nice and colorful and also ideal if you are looking for separate LEGO® parts in a particular color. The scannable tiles with effects, BeatBits, are nice collector's items. Furthermore, we expect the LEGO® VIDIYO minifigures to become real collectible items. And the Llama is just awesome!
We shared our findings with LEGO® and LEGO® indicates that the app will be further developed and that we can expect improvements soon.
About LEGO® VIDIYO

What is LEGO® VIDIYO?
VIDIYO is a LEGO® theme consisting of physical sets and a free app. VIDIYO is a collaboration between LEGO® and the Universal Music Group. The music you can find in the app is from the library of the Universal Music Group.
In the LEGO® VIDIYO sets you will find minifigures and BeatBits that you can build and scan via the app. The minifigures let you play along in your own music video and BeatBits provide special effects. Choose a song, invent a clip, or just go crazy. Record it with your smartphone and with the help of augmented reality the app turns it into a real music video.
Not satisfied? Then simply edit your video clip. You can share your creation in the app with others. Before your video is uploaded, it is moderated by LEGO®. For example, no children's faces may appear in the videos that are publicly available. Children are therefore removed from the videos by LEGO®. Also, the videos stay within the app and are not downloadable. This makes the LEGO® VIDIYO app safe for children to use. With this new theme, LEGO® and the Universal Music Group want to stimulate children's creativity and increase their passion for music.
Making music, short video clips, sharing them through the app? Does this sound familiar? Yes, LEGO® has created a TikTok alternative. The big advantage of LEGO® VIDIYO is that it provides a safe online environment for children. In addition, it offers the opportunity to do even more fun things with LEGO®. As with all themes, VIDIYO is compatible with other LEGO®.
