Which LEGO® propeller is the most efficient?

LEGO® propellers come in all shapes and sizes. Apart from their size, they also differ in how efficient they are. However, it is not entirely clear which propeller is the best. Even experts don't know yet. In this article we will take a look at Sariel's efficiency test, so you can get a better idea of which propeller is best for your LEGO® Technic set.

In this test, Sariel compares the propellers by having them power a LEGO® boat in the water pulling a rope that lifts a weight onto a scale. The harder the boat pulls, the lower the value on the scale and thus the more efficient the propeller is. Sariel unfortunately did not have access to all LEGO® propellers, but used the most common and practical propellers in the test.

Sariel's test shows that the 9 diameter propellers are the most efficient. As you can see in the video, the winner of the test was the 3 blade 9 diameter propeller with part number 30332.

So if you want the most efficient propeller for your LEGO® Technic set, Sariel recommends this propeller.
