Different shields are used by different warriors. For example, a shield may fit heraldry or the type of weapon combat. But sometimes it's just a nice shape. Like this oval shield?
This beige shield without print (no decorative heraldry) fits so much with LEGO knights, but also does not look out of place as armor for LEGO ninjas.
And who says this part has to be a minifigure's coat of arms!? It can also be a nice decoration on a monumental LEGO building! Provide a clip and you attach this shield where you want it. LEGO wouldn't be lego if you can't also come up with another use for this part.
