Ben Turner comes from a black upper middle class neighborhood in Central City. 10-year-old Ben saw a burglar attack his parents. He killed the burglar with a kitchen knife. In an attempt to control his grief and anger, Turner turns to martial arts. After some time, Turner decides to travel to the Far East to come to terms with his demons. There he meets the O-Sensei and becomes a Bronze Tiger. The Bronze Tiger has no metahuman powers, but is a master martial artist with lightning fast reflexes. He masters different fighting styles such as boxing, hapkido, jeet kune, jujutsu, judo, karate, kung-Fu, muay thai, savate, silat, vale tudo and taekwondo.
