LEGO® DOTS calls it quits

Bad news for craft and jewellery lovers. LEGO® has announced that it will no longer be developing the LEGO® DOTS series. LEGO® DOTS is a favourite among many LEGO® fans, and it also brought many new fans to the hobby. The collection focuses on patterns and building in mosaic style with brightly coloured tiles and unique printed elements, and also includes wearables such as bracelets and keychains and home items such as bennebins and storage boxes. Unfortunately, the theme will soon be discontinued, although some features of LEGO® DOTS will be integrated into other themes. Below is the official announcement.

"After careful consideration, we have decided to exit the LEGO® DOTS theme and integrate pattern play into other themes within our portfolio."

LEGO® DOTS novelty launches in January and March continue, but are also our last for this theme, with all current items from 2022 remaining active in the product line until the end of the year.

LEGO® DOTS was launched in March 2020 with the ambition of connecting with children through their passion for crafting - with the aim of encouraging self-expression and attracting new builders to the LEGO® brand. It was an entirely new building style that used brightly coloured tiles to spark creativity in LEGO® fans, in a fun and unique way.

While we see that there is a lot of enthusiasm for this type of proposition and it plays an important role in engaging children with the LEGO® brand, we also recognise the challenges of establishing LEGO® DOTS as a long-term brand in the arts & crafts category.

We will refocus our attention on elements of tile play in other business areas. We know that there is still a strong appeal from the crafting world, and we want to ensure that there are opportunities for children who love the game proposal to still build in this way. We can also confirm that this discontinuation will not affect our business direction for similar themes such as LEGO® Art, and we look forward to more exciting launches in the future.

Unfortunately for LEGO® dots fans, you can of course continue to order the individual parts of the LEGO® DOTS sets. For example, we have the loose bracelets, and loose printed tiles. So you can just stay creative and enjoy your homemade jewellery and show off your creativity to everyone.
