How to organize your LEGO®. The Ultimate LEGO® organizer guide.

When you are a LEGO® fan, you will probably have a lot of LEGO®. Chances are, your LEGO® collection will be growing the coming year. So you have more and more LEGO®, but your house is most likely not getting any bigger coming year. More LEGO®, more problems? Not if you organize your LEGO® well. If you want to build for example your next MOC set, then it would be nice of course that you can find the parts that you need. That’s why we have written this LEGO® organizer guide for you on how to organize your LEGO®. Are you looking for ideas to organize your LEGO® or proven LEGO® storage solutions? Then read our step for step guide for an organized LEGO® storage system.

Sort your LEGO® collection like a boss

We are going to explain the best way to organize your LEGO® parts. For the following system we assume that you really have a lot LEGO®. If you don’t have so much LEGO® yet, the system might not be necessary for you. On the other hand, with our system you can grow your collection without turning it into a chaos. Our system is suiting for sorting LEGO® parts and not minifigures, but don’t worry. We will explain how you can organize your LEGO® minifigures. So let’s start with our system for organizing LEGO® parts.

Organize your LEGO® parts

Step 1 Organize your LEGO® parts by category

The first step for organizing LEGO® parts is to sort them by category. The main categories will be bricks, plates, tiles, wedges, rounds, technic and bionicle. Not all LEGO® parts will fall into these categories, but these will be the most important ones. For LEGO® parts that do not fall into any of these categories you can use the other groups that we use ourselves for our LEGO® parts. You can find these on our LEGO® parts page.

Step 2 Organize your LEGO® parts by shape

If you have sorted your LEGO® pieces into categories then the next step is to organize the parts within each category by shape. For instance, you can organize LEGO® bricks by dimension (2x2, 2x3, 2x4 etc.).

Step 3 Organize your LEGO® parts by color

Now you have sorted your LEGO® parts by category and divided them further by shape. The last step is to organize them by color. Some might skip this step, because a sorting by category and shape will suffice. If your LEGO® collection is really big, you also want to subdivide your parts by color.

Step 4 Use drawer cabinets

Drawer cabinets are the most space efficient and accessible methods of storage for your LEGO® collection. You can use boxes or bins, but if your collection is big, then we strongly advise drawer cabinets. You can store a lot of LEGO® in them and they won’t take too much space. You can also get to your LEGO® quickly, which is not that easy when you store LEGO® in boxes.

After have sorted your LEGO® parts you are ready to fill the drawers. Label each drawer such that you can easily see what parts are in them. Use the structure of your collection (category, shape and color) to group the different parts. In this way you will remember quickly where you have to look when you are searching for LEGO® parts. If you have organized your LEGO® collection, you are ready to build again. When you need a part, then you will find that part with our ToyPro sorting system and if you don’t find it, then we know a good online store where you might find it.

Organize your LEGO® figures

Organizing LEGO® minifigures is a bit easier than sorting LEGO® parts. The easiest way to sort LEGO® minifigures is to group them by theme. You can use the themes of our LEGO® minifigures assortment of your own collection.

Hopefully we have given you a good plan to sort your LEGO® and create your own LEGO® storage system. Once you have organized your LEGO® collection according to this system, you save a lot of time you can spend on building with LEGO®. You can also let your LEGO® collection grow while keeping an overview.
