German LEGO® Fans build life-size Volkswagen T2a Camper

The Volkswagen T1 & T2 are real cult cars and the LEGO® VW T1 Camper has also been a very popular LEGO® set for years. Not only the standard LEGO® Volkswagen T1 set is popular, this model is also very popular among MOC builders who build their own LEGO® Volkswagen Camper alternates. Two German men recently built a very special LEGO® Volkswagen Camper. They have built a life-size Volkswagen T2a Camper and completed it within 6 weeks.
Rene Hoffmeister is one of only 12 officially certified LEGO® builders in the world. Together with colleague model builder Pascal Lenhard, they took up the challenge to build a real-life VW T2a Camper out of individual LEGO® parts, including a fold-out roof, in approximately 6 weeks.
For this they used LEGO® 3D design programs, with which they could calculate in advance how many LEGO® bricks they would need. It turned out that they needed no less than 400,000 LEGO® parts to build this LEGO® VW motorhome in full size.
Their camper was presented at the leisure fair in Munich and unveiled next to his original cousin. This LEGO® Volkswagen T2a Camper is 16 feet and 4.9” long, 6 feet and 2.8” wide, almost 6 feet and 6.7” high and weighs no less than 1543 lbs. This life-sized LEGO® MOC has no shortage of details. For example, the LEGO® designers have built in the distinctive Westfalia roof, as well as the sliding door and the kitchen has also been recreated.
