Review: Friends Beach Amusement Park 41737

Fancy going to the beach? We do, especially if it's a beach amusement park! We'll take a closer look at this new LEGO® Friends set in this review.
Looking at the front of the box we can already see that it comes with 4 minifigures and these are the new residents of Heartlake City: Zack, Nova, Charli and Dia. So they get to go out and have fun in the amusement park. The back of the box shows that there are also many technical elements in this set. For example, it shows that the carousel, surf game and water shooting game can all move by turning one lever. LEGO® calls this Connected function.
Building
Let's open the box to see what's inside. First, there are ten bags inside, which are also numbered from 1 to 10, and inside the envelope is the instruction booklet with 1 sheet of stickers.
When starting on the first bags, it is immediately noticeable that there is a lot of technical LEGO® in this set. Once we get busy building we see that this is definitely not a set for somewhat younger children to build on their own. So some parental help may be needed.
The first part of the construction is a section of the surf attraction. With this, there are a lot of stickers to stick right away. Should you have trouble sticking the stickers straight, use the Brick Separator to stick the stickers. This is a little trick in case you don't know it yet. 
In construction, we also see "color coding". LEGO® uses this more often in the constructions to show where you have to connect 2 separate parts. Very handy to click everything together in one go.
As we get to bag 4 we are going to build in a bit of height. The nice thing is that the technology we just built does disappear under a structure. But in this, transparent blue panels have been used. This way you can still see the technical part when the set is completely built. To make this completely blend in with the structure, fish decals are used to make it look like a big aquarium.
As in many LEGO® sets, parts in this set are used in a completely different way than what they are originally used for. For example, there are hairs used as decoration on the sign at the entrance to the amusement park and also in the water shooting game, for example, we see roller skates used as eyes of the small octopuses.
In between building, you can see in the booklet (or in the building app) that it's smart to take a moment to test if everything can move properly and easily. You do this every time you put a part together from the different sections. That way you can be sure you won't have to take a large section apart again, should the technology get stuck somewhere.
The last thing you need to build are the three animal carts for the spinning attraction. Once these are finished and placed on the turntable, the assembly is completely finished and the amusement park can open!
The minifigures
Four minifigures are included in this set. These are, as mentioned earlier, the friends: Zac, Nova, Charli and Dia. In which Nova and Zac have two different heads in order to give them different facial expressions. Furthermore, of course, all 4 have a summer outfit to enjoy themselves on the beach.
New parts
This set also features a number of parts in a new color. We've listed them for you:
Curved 1x2 stone (11477) there are no less than 2 new colors in this set. Namely in transparent light blue and transparent yellow.
Curved 4x1 stone (61678) in dark turquoise.
Curved wedge 3x2 in left (80177) and right (80178) variant in coral color.
In this set also the corner plate 1x2 - 2x2 inverted (99207) and a surfboard (90397) in coral color.
In bright light orange are the round 1x1 plate with handle (26047) and the star with studded holder (11609).
In dark turquoise the shuttle tail (44661).
A container 2x2x2 in dark blue (61780).
Wave with pin or flame (69858) in transparent green opal.
A triangular 2x2 tile (35787) in Medium nougat.
In light green a 1x1 custom slab with vertical tooth (15070).
A horn/dragon tail (2142) in yellow.
A balloon dog in transparent light green.
A part that has not been around very long is a plant part, it first appeared in the Lord of the Rings set Rivendell (10316). So this fern plant (2682) now also comes in the color lime.
Another item not often found, and now in black for the first time, is a 4x8 inverted tile (83496).
Add lighting
The Amusement Park already looks great of course but with the addition of lighting it only becomes a real amusement park. Now there is no standard lighting set for this amusement park. But ToyPro of course has separate LED lighting parts. And with a little imagination you can add your own nice lighting effect to this set. That's exactly what we did. We applied blue strip lights in the water shooting attraction and in the "aquarium", this way you can even better see the technical part of this set. Furthermore, we added lights in red, green and warm white in different places with separate point lights and for most of the lights we put them under a round 1x1 plate. So we added these ourselves. In the speakers we put flashing lights. Finally, we put a flexible self-adhesive pink LED strip in the carousel base. You can easily run the wiring between the LEGO® bricks and connect it to an expansion board. These are available in different sizes. Furthermore, you will also need some connecting cables. You also connect a USB plug to the expansion board to power everything, of course.
