On the christening day of the newborn Aurora, the three good fairies Flora, Fauna and Merryweather come to bless her. They bless Aurora with beauty, song and ... when Mooiweertje wants to do her blessing Malafide the wicked witch arrives. Why wasn't she invited? Snibbish declares Mooiweertje that Malafide is not wanted. Malafide ignites in anger and curses young Aurora; on her 16th birthday, Aurora will prick herself on a spinning wheel and die. Mooiweertje manages just in time to make Malafide's powerful magic a little less terrible; she ensures that Aurora will fall into a sleep, from which she will awaken only when she is kissed with true love.
Her father has all the spinning wheels in the land destroyed, and the three good fairies go to live with Aurora, who from now on will be called Sleeping Beauty, in a secluded spot in the forest.
