Review: LEGO® DREAMZzz Mrs Castillo's Turtle Van 71456

Ms Castillo's van may be just an ordinary taco food truck in the ordinary world. But in the dream world, this becomes a turtle van where you can get supplies to fight nightmares. Let's see what we all find in the LEGO® set of this van and how it is constructed.

71456 Mrs. Castillo's Turtle Van

71456 Box

Starting to build

In the box, this set comes with a total of five bags and a sticker sheet. As with the other LEGO® DreamZzz sets, the instruction booklet is nicely animated with drawings from the dream world and allowing you to learn about the story and characters again.

71456 Content

The first bag includes Mrs Castillo. She has a new kind of bodice that we have not seen so far in any sets other than the LEGO® DreamZzz sets. At the back of the bodice are 4 studs to which you can attach other LEGO® parts. Ms Castillo's arms are the same arms commonly used on LEGO® Super Mario figures. At the end of the first bag, you'll have finished the chassis for the car.

Bag 1

The second bag contains Mateo, Z-Blob and the front and back of the van. In the steps of this section, you should also stick the first sticker. If you have trouble sticking neatly, use a brick separator. Pick up the sticker with the flat side and this way you will have more overview to stick the sticker neatly.

Bag 2

The rest of the parts around the "regular" van are in bag 3. This again includes a lot of stickers. The roof of the van is constructed so that it can be easily removed and put back on. This also makes it easy to put figures in the van and play with it. Now that the van is ready, it's time again to choose what to add to this fun van.

Bag 3

Party bus or submarine?

The fourth bag contains the minifigure Grimspawn who wants to do evil in the dream world. But luckily you also have to build Zoey so she can help dispel the nightmares. Now we come to the choice moment. Do we make a party bus with a movable tree, a spinning cactus and a treasure chest that opens, or do we go for the flying Submarine with a movable periscope and Cactus Cat that can "fly" next to the bus. We do love a party so we went for the party bus.

The last bag contains the parts to make the turtle's legs. This then completes the Turtle bus.

71456 Final

The minifigures

There are a total of 5 minifigures in this set. As we described earlier, they are Ms Castillo, Mateo, Zoey, Z-Blob and Grimspawn. Ms Castillo has a backpack on her back and a head with 2 prints. One side has an open smiling mouth and the other a closed mouth. She also has an hourglass staff and white hair. Mateo has grey printed legs with red shoes, a body printed on two sides and a red backpack. His head has a smiling mouth on one side and on the other he looks with a grin on his face. Of course, his signature hairstyle is not to be missed, as is the pencil to beat nightmares with. Zoey has printed legs in dark silver grey, her bodice is printed on two sides in dark blue with bare arms. Like Mateo, she looks on one side of the head with a grin on her face and smiles on the other. Zoey's hair is a purple braided hairdo. Furthermore, Zoey has a purple handbow and an hourglass. On her back, she carries an arrow holder.

71456 Minifigs

Then you have Z-Blob and Grimspawn. Z-Blob has a light green body and head. The head is printed with two eyes. Over the head is a translucent green "goo". Grimspawn has a black head and body. The head is printed with angry eyes and a scar. Furthermore, he is wearing a black helmet with transparent purple feather and is holding a spear as a weapon.

Conclusion

This LEGO® set will certainly be appreciated by all builders because of the many minifigures and the cheerful-looking van. Which is also a lot of fun without additions of the turtle parts. Too bad the two different versions you can build with the extra parts are not very different from each other.

The episode with the turtle bus

Ms Casillo's turtle bus appears in episode 4 of series 1 and you can watch it here.
