The McLaren P1™ redefined the world of high-performance cars as the most exciting, capable, technologically advanced and dynamically accomplished supercar of its time. The P1™ utilised McLaren's advanced motorsport-based engineering, with pioneering advances in weight reduction, packaging, high-speed performance, powertrain and aerodynamics.

Created with the intention of being "the world's best car on both the road and the track", the design and technical specifications of the McLaren P1™ provided the ideal basis to realise this ambition. The incredible engineering and technology behind the McLaren P1™'s performance, style and functional design made it the perfect challenge for the LEGO Technic team to recreate in 1:8 scale.

LEGO Technic McLaren P1™

Launched as part of the LEGO Technic Ultimate Car Concept Series, the all-new 1:8 scale LEGO Technic version of the McLaren P1™ consists of 3,893 elements. Each car has a unique serial number that gives access to special behind-the-scenes content. The model features a 7-speed gearbox with 2 shift drums, suspension, a V8 piston engine, adjustable rear wing and dihedral doors with an advanced mechanism. These features provide an immersive build experience from start to finish, authentic to the real McLaren P1™.

The model was created by the LEGO Technic design team in close collaboration with McLaren Automotive, with both teams focusing on implementing as much advanced functionality in the model as possible as a tribute to both the real P1™ and the technical perfection McLaren is known for.

We wanted to capture these details in the best possible way with our LEGO Technic model and did not want to compromise in any way. Therefore, we tested several variations of the car to evaluate different designs. We also faced a big challenge with the iconic butterfly doors, as they needed a new mechanism to stay open. It was a great experience to recreate the McLaren P1™ and I hope all supercar enthusiasts are ready to explore the details and intricacies of the real McLaren P1™ in LEGO Technic form."
