See how to build a fully working LEGO® Rubik's cube here!

Rubik's cubes! Who doesn't know them? The well-known, colourful puzzle cubes have, just like LEGO®, been a fun activity for both young and old for years. But what if you could combine the two? LEGO® creative PuzzLEGO made a real functioning Rubiks cube from LEGO®. In the video below he shows you how you can build one too!

In case you still don't know what a Rubik's cube is, we'll explain it to you. The Rubiks cube is a puzzle in the shape of a cube. It was invented by Hungarian mathematician Ernö Rubik, who initially only wanted to use the cube to give his students better spatial awareness. Eventually, it became enormously popular among young people in the 1980s, when the German game maker Tom Kremmer started working on it. The cube consists of 27 smaller cubes, each visible side of which has a colour. Thus, all 54 visible sides of the cube have one of 6 colours: white, green, yellow, blue, orange and red. The cube is constructed in such a way that the centres of the faces can rotate, so that there are 20 small cubes that can change places. The aim is to keep on turning the cube until all 6 faces have the same colour. If you think this is a piece of cake and you are done with it in no time, you are sorely mistaken. Because of the more than 43 trillion(!) different combinations, the possibilities with a Rubik's cube are almost endless, so you can keep puzzling!

This LEGO® Rubiks cube was made by puzzLEGO, a LEGO® designer who likes a nice technical challenge. We already wrote about his mini LEGO® pendulum clock which is, just like this LEGO® Rubiks cube, a pretty good piece of LEGO®. He also builds many other LEGO® puzzles which can really get your brain going. Read our article about his best LEGO® puzzles if you are curious about this. Also be sure to check out his Youtube channel, where he shows you exactly how to recreate his creations!
