Make a GBC out of the 42167 Mack® LR Electric garbage truck

The LEGO® Technic set 42167, the Mack® LR Electric garbage truck, offers builders a realistic representation of a modern rubbish truck. With features such as a side loader for grabbing, lifting and tipping rubbish, realistic steering and included bins, this set encourages creative and technical understanding in children. But you can also make lots of other things out of this set.

PV-Productions has transformed this set into a functional Great Ball Contraption (GBC) module called "GBC 58 Dump 'n' Drop". This module is built entirely from the parts of the 42167 set and acts as an alternative building option. The design was created in collaboration with Noad de Lange, Petter Breedveld and Ben Jonkman.

The "GBC 58 Dump 'n' Drop" module consists of an input bin, a mechanism and an output ram. The feed tray can hold several GBC balls and features a rotating wheel that prevents the balls from getting stuck, by guiding them left or right towards the lifting arms. These lifting arms move in a 180-degree phase shift relative to each other. When a lifting arm moves down, it activates a mechanism that loads one GBC ball into the bin of the lifting arm. As it moves upwards, the ball is quickly raised and ejected, then guided through a wall to the next GBC module. The whole thing is manually driven by a lever to be turned clockwise, but can also be motorised according to PV-Productions' instructions. For this, you can easily click a LEGO® motor onto the module.

Free building instructions

For builders interested in creating this GBC module, PV-Productions offers free detailed building instructions. These instructions include explanations of the mechanisms, tips for fine tuning and information on motorising the module. Although the instructions are free, PV-Productions stresses that they should not be distributed without permission.

The "GBC 58 Dump 'n' Drop" allows LEGO enthusiasts to expand their existing GBC set-ups and learn new techniques in terms of gearing, timing mechanisms and robust constructions. The project demonstrates the versatility of the LEGO 42167 set and inspires builders to get creative with limited resources.
