Creator of the original LEGO® Minifigure passed away

Jens Nygaard Knudsen is the inventor of our beloved minifigure. He died 2 weeks ago from the effects of ALS. He was 78 years old and has worked for LEGO® for no less than 32 years.

The minifigure hit the shelves for the first time in 1978. And around his death, an estimated 8 billion LEGO® minifigs have already been made. In addition to the minifigs, he also made the first space sets. The LEGO® 358 Rocket Base and the LEGO® 365 Landing kits.

LEGO Designer Milan Pedersen told the AFP (Agence France-Presse) the following: "His imagination was fantastic. If we had a brainstorm it was more like a brain hurricane, because he had so many ideas.

We are very grateful to him for his creations at LEGO® and wish his friends and family all the strength in dealing with this loss.
