The wealthy Walter Donovan tells Indiana that his father, Dr. Henry Jones, has disappeared during his search for the Holy Grail. In the process, Indy also receives a special package, which turns out to contain his father's diary. In it he has written down all his clues as to the whereabouts of the grail. Since the search for the grail was his father's life's work, Indy realizes that his father is in trouble, otherwise he would not have sent his diary to his son.
