Prince John is the younger brother of King Richard, from whom John usurped the throne of England with the help of his aide, Sir Hiss. Thanks to him, King Richard went on a crusade and John now sits on the throne. Despite his power, John is reviled by his subjects because he heartlessly steals from the poor to increase his own wealth and prosperity. Prince John, however, is also a coward and a crier.
John is greedy and loves money more than anything else in the world, perhaps even more than his own life. When Robin Hood sneaks into his castle to rob Prince John, the prince sleeps peacefully on with his coins firmly clutched in his arms and his thumb in his mouth.
