LEGO® History: Adventurers

The slightly older LEGO® enthusiast or the true LEGO® collector will be familiar with the theme: LEGO® Adventurers! This time we dive into the past of this exciting and beloved theme. Unfortunately, LEGO® discontinued this theme, but there are still enough parts available to be able to rebuild it. But first, dive into the past.

The beginning of LEGO® Adventurers

LEGO® Adventurers was first introduced in 1998, and it was immediately clear that it brought a whole new level of adventure to the LEGO® world. The series placed players in the shoes of brave explorers, treasure hunters and adventurers who travelled the world in search of lost treasures and unknown secrets.

The first year of LEGO® Adventurers consisted of four different sub-themes, each with its own unique atmosphere and adventure theme:

Desert: The Desert theme took players into the mysterious and dangerous desert landscape, where they had to deal with sandstorms, ancient tombs and hidden treasures.

Jungle: The Jungle sets placed adventurers amidst the lush greenery of the jungle, where they met indigenous tribes, encountered wild animals and discovered mysterious ruins.

Dino Island: Dino Island took players back to prehistoric times, where dinosaurs ruled. The theme combined adventure with palaeontology, with dinosaurs playing a prominent role in the sets.

Egypt: Egyptian Adventures brought the charm of ancient Egypt to life. Here, players could dig into the tombs of pharaohs and make their own archaeological discoveries.

The Highlights of LEGO® Adventurers

LEGO® Adventurers offered a wide range of exciting sets and characters, but some notable highlights deserve special mention:

Johnny Thunder: This charismatic adventurer was the face of LEGO® Adventurers and appeared in many of the sets. He quickly became a fan favourite and embodied the series' adventurous feel.

Unique vehicles and building styles: LEGO® Adventurers also introduced some of the most unique vehicles and building styles in LEGO® history. Think tough jeeps, steam trains and even airships that the adventurers used to make their journeys.

Mystical artefacts: Another feature of LEGO® Adventurers was its emphasis on mystical artefacts and ancient treasures. These objects, such as the 'Sceptre of Ra' and the 'Crystal of Control', were often at the centre of adventures and gave the stories a captivating element of mystery and magic.

The Legacy of LEGO® Adventurers

Although LEGO® Adventurers did not run as long as some other LEGO® themes, such as LEGO® City or LEGO® Star Wars, it has had a lasting impact on fans and the LEGO® community as a whole. The series brought a sense of adventure and discovery to the building brick experience, and the sets remain sought-after by collectors to this day.

Moreover, LEGO® Adventurers helped expand the LEGO® universe and laid the foundation for future adventure themes and stories. It has inspired children around the world to invent and create their own adventures with LEGO® bricks.

The Adventure Continues

Although LEGO® Adventurers has officially ended, it lives on in the hearts and memories of those who experienced it. The series brought the excitement of adventure and exploration to the world of building bricks and has left a lasting impression.

Today, LEGO® continues to introduce new and exciting themes and sets, but LEGO® Adventurers will always be remembered as an era of intrepid exploration and adventure in the world of LEGO®. It proves that even the smallest building blocks can create a world of adventure for anyone willing to use their imagination.
