Top 20 most sought-after LEGO® pieces of 2026

When you think of sought-after LEGO® pieces, you might think of unusual animals, rare colours or eye-catching printed bricks. Yet it is often the small, basic pieces that hold a structure together. A plate that bridges exactly the right height difference, a tile that finishes off a floor, or a Technic pin that securely connects two parts.

In this top 20 for 2026, we’re putting versatile LEGO® pieces in the spotlight. You’ll discover what you can use them for and why simple shapes in particular offer so many building possibilities. From a small vehicle to an elaborate city building: these pieces come in handy in all sorts of places.

This selection is intended as building inspiration for 2026, not a sales ranking. Each combination of part and colour counts as a separate entry.

1. Black 1 x 2 plate – 3023

Small, versatile and easy to work with: the black 1 x 2 stud plate is a true building staple. Use it to connect layers, position a detail one plate higher or create a dark border. Its compact size works equally well in miniature models and larger constructions.

2. Black Technic friction pin – 2780

This black pin connects parts via matching Technic holes. The friction helps to keep the connection in place. This makes it useful for vehicle frames, machines and constructions featuring Technic beams. For moving connections, be aware of the difference between pins with and without friction.

3. Light grey 1 x 2 plate – 3023

The light grey version complements buildings, machines and spaceships beautifully. Use it, for example, to create a narrow border along a façade or to join different layers of a vehicle together. The neutral colour combines easily with striking accents.

4. Black 1 x 4 plate – 3710

With four studs in a row, you can connect several smaller parts together. This narrow plate is useful for window frames, vehicle underbodies and elongated details. By running plates over the seams of underlying parts, you can make a structure more sturdy.

5. Black 1 x 1 plate – 3024

Sometimes, just one stud is all that’s needed to make a design work. This small black plate is ideal for subtle height differences, corner details and dark accents. In mosaics and small models, too, this size offers a great deal of control over the placement of colours.

6. Dark grey plate 1 x 2 – 3023

Dark grey gives a structure a different look to light grey. Use this tile, for example, for a rock face, an industrial building or the underside of a vehicle. By deliberately distributing different shades of grey, a surface gains more variation.

7. Black sheet 2 x 4 – 3020

The 2 x 4 stud plate provides space to build multiple smaller components. It can be used as the base for a piece of furniture, a compact vehicle or part of a larger structure. The black colour also works well for a dark base.

8. Black 2 x 2 plate – 3022

A square format is easy to incorporate into a building plan. Use this plate underneath a small decorative piece, in a vehicle or as a connecting layer between other parts. It offers just a little more surface area than a narrow plate, without taking up much space.

9. White 1 x 2 plate – 3023

The 1 x 2 white plate suits modern façades, light-coloured interiors and winter-themed structures. In a snowy landscape, you can use small plates to create irregular layers. On a building, the same part helps to further detail a window frame or façade edge.

10. Light grey 1 x 1 panel – 3024

This small piece is useful when a detail needs to be raised by exactly one brick. Think of the base of a miniature machine, an accent on a façade or a small element in a spaceship. The light grey colour complements many technical and architectural designs.

11. Black 1 x 2 tile – 3069

A tile has a smooth top surface and therefore provides a different finish to a plate. The 1 x 2 black tile is suitable for floors, table tops and clean-cut edges. Alternate smooth tiles with visible studs where you may want to attach something later.

12. Light grey slab 1 x 4 – 3710

This elongated slab is suitable for narrow strips in buildings and vehicles. Think of a border beneath a window, a layer in a wall or a joint between smaller slabs. Light grey also makes it easy to create a neutral base for other colours.

13. Black plate 2 x 3 – 3021

Not every design requires an even number of studs. The 2 x 3 plate fills the gap perfectly between the 2 x 2 and 2 x 4 sizes. This is useful for compact vehicle floors, furniture and surfaces where space is limited.

14. Light grey 1 x 2 tile – 3069

This smooth tile is a suitable choice for pavements, floors and technical panels. Lay several tiles in a pattern to create a tiled surface, or use a single tile as a small finishing detail. Light grey combines beautifully with dark grey grout and coloured façades.

15. Black slab 1 x 3 – 3623

A length of three studs is useful when a 1 x 2 plate is too short and a 1 x 4 protrudes too far. Use this version for narrow edges, small vehicles and joining parts. It is precisely with compact models that such an intermediate size makes a difference.

16. Black 1 x 6 plate – 3666

With this longer plate, you can create a continuous strip of six studs. This works well for a roof edge, chassis detail or a narrow connection across multiple parts. Combine different lengths to prevent all the seams in a structure from lining up on top of one another.

17. Light grey plate 2 x 2 – 3022

This square plate is a practical base for small technical details and architectural elements. Use it, for example, under a column, as part of a floor or in a vehicle structure. Its size makes it easy to combine with 1 x 2 plates.

18. Light grey 2 x 4 plate – 3020

The light grey 2 x 4 plate provides a generous mounting surface in a low-profile build. It is suitable for floors, vehicle underbodies and the interiors of larger models. By placing the plate over various underlying parts, you can connect them together.

19. Dark grey 1 x 4 plate – 3710

This narrow plate is a useful choice for dark building edges, machinery and rocky landscapes. Its length of four studs makes it suitable for continuous lines. Alternate it with shorter plates when you want to build an irregular surface.

20. White 1 x 1 plate – 3024

The smallest white details can make a structure instantly recognisable. Think of snow on an edge, an accent on a façade or a slight difference in height within an interior. With one stud per piece, you can precisely define the shape of such details.

Extra building tip: the dark grey 1 x 1 brick is a handy addition for small shadow edges and height differences. You’ll find this as the third product in the row below, next to numbers 19 and 20.

Why are these particular LEGO® basic parts so useful?

A distinctive piece may sometimes define the look of a model, but it’s the smaller plates and tiles that make the build possible. They connect layers, fill gaps and ensure the right finish.

The same plate can be used in a car, a castle and a spaceship. That’s what makes simple parts so versatile. Colour plays a part too: black adds dark accents, shades of grey suit technical and stone surfaces, whilst white works well for light-coloured buildings and winter scenes.

What is the difference between LEGO® plates and tiles?

Plates have studs on the top. You can build directly onto them. They’re handy for connecting pieces and building up height differences in small increments.

Standard tiles have a smooth top. You can use them to finish off floors, furniture and exterior surfaces. If you want to attach a minifigure or a decorative piece to a tiled surface, simply leave a suitable piece with a stud visible in that spot.

A standard plate is one-third the height of a standard LEGO® brick. So three plates stacked on top of each other are the same height as one standard brick.

How to find the right individual LEGO® parts at ToyPro

Search by part number on ToyPro to find the shape you want, then check the colour and dimensions. For example, the number 3023 refers to a 1 x 2 plate, but this comes in several colours.

With grey parts, pay attention to the correct shade, especially when you’re completing an older set. Light grey and dark grey come in older and newer variants that are visibly different from one another.

Browse the individual LEGO® parts at ToyPro and choose the parts that suit your building plan. Whether you’re looking for a missing plate or designing a model entirely of your own, a well-chosen basic part can make all the difference.
