LEGO® History: Star Wars

As a LEGO fan and Star Wars enthusiast, you're probably already familiar with the many LEGO Star Wars sets released over the years. But did you know that LEGO and Star Wars have been working together for almost 25 years? In this article, we take you through the complete LEGO Star Wars history.
1999-2005: The original LEGO Star Wars sets
In 1999, LEGO released the very first LEGO Star Wars set: the X-wing Fighter. This set was based on the original 1977 Star Wars movie and was the beginning of a long-standing collaboration between LEGO and Lucasfilm. The first LEGO Star Wars sets were primarily based on the original trilogy, including the Millennium Falcon, AT-AT, and various minifigures of Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader and Han Solo.
In 2002, the first LEGO Star Wars video game was released, which became a big hit with fans of both LEGO and Star Wars. In the following years, more and more sets were released, including sets based on the prequel trilogy, such as the Clone Troopers and Jedi Starfighters.
2005-2011: The first LEGO Star Wars movies
In 2005, the last film of the prequel trilogy was released, Revenge of the Sith. This was also the year LEGO released the first LEGO Star Wars animated film, LEGO Star Wars: The Padawan Menace. The film was a huge success and led to more animated films and series based on LEGO Star Wars.
In this period, more sets based on the prequel trilogy were also released, such as the Separatist Shuttle and the Ultimate Lightsaber Duel set. New sets were also released based on the original trilogy, such as the Death Star II and the Ewok Village.
2011-2015: The acquisition by Disney
In 2012, it was announced that Disney had acquired Lucasfilm and the rights to make new Star Wars films. This also meant that LEGO could continue producing LEGO Star Wars sets based on new Star Wars movies.
In this period, sets based on the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series were released, such as the Republic Gunship and the Mandalorian Speeder. Sets were also released based on the new Star Wars films, such as The Force Awakens and Rogue One.
2015-present: The new Star Wars trilogy
In 2015, the first film of the new Star Wars trilogy was released: The Force Awakens. LEGO released several sets based on the film, including the Millennium Falcon and the First Order Special Forces TIE Fighter.
In the years that followed, more sets were released based on the new trilogy, including the Resistance Bomber and Kylo Ren's Shuttle. LEGO also released several sets based on the spin-off films Solo: A Star Wars Story and Rogue One.
The Mandalorian
With the recent addition of the Mandalorian to the Star Wars universe, it is no surprise that Lego has released several sets based on the popular show. The Mandalorian is a live-action series on Disney+ set in the Star Wars universe, taking place five years after the events of Return of the Jedi. The series follows a lone bounty hunter, Din Djarin, as he travels the galaxy protecting and caring for a child known as "The Child" or "Baby Yoda." The show has become a cultural phenomenon, with fans eagerly awaiting each new episode and the release of merchandise.
Lego has released several sets based on the Mandalorian, including the Mandalorian Battle Pack, the Razor Crest, the Imperial Troop Transport, and the Trouble on Tatooine set. Each set features minifigures of popular characters from the series, as well as vehicles and locations from the series.
The Mandalorian Battle Pack includes four minifigures: two Mandalorian warriors, a bounty hunter and a Tusken Raider. The set also includes a small construction of a defensive fortress and a ballista for launching projectiles. This set is great for fans who want to build their Mandalorian army and reenact battles from the series.
The Razor Crest set includes a buildable version of the Mandalorian ship, complete with cockpit, cargo hold and detachable escape pod. The set also includes minifigures of the Mandalorian, Baby Yoda, Greef Karga and IG-11. This set is perfect for fans who want to reenact scenes from the series, such as the Mandalorian's escape from the ice planet Maldo Kreis.
The Imperial Troop Transport set includes a buildable version of the Empire's transport vehicle, as well as minifigures of two stormtroopers and a Tusken Raider. The set also includes a small build of a defense tower. This set is great for fans who want to create their own battles between the Empire and the Mandalorians.
The Trouble on Tatooine set includes a buildable version of a Tusken Raider's hut, and minifigures of the Mandalorian and a Tusken Raider. The set also includes a small build of a speeder bike. This set is perfect for fans who want to reenact scenes from the series, such as the Mandalorian's encounter with the Tusken Raiders on Tatooine.
Over all, the Lego Star Wars Mandalorian sets are a must-have for fans of the series and the franchise. With their attention to detail, minifigures and vehicles, these sets are sure to provide hours of fun for builders and collectors alike.
