In Rivendell, Boromir attends the Council of Elrond. There he tries to persuade the others to let him take the Ring with him to Gondor to use the Ring against the enemy there. However, the council decides that the Ring should be destroyed in Doom.
Boromir, equipped with the Gondor sword and his trusty shield, along with eight others, joins the Journey companion who is to protect the hobbit Frodo Baggins on his journey. He becomes increasingly possessed by the Ring, however, and on Amon Hen he tries with some persuasion to persuade Frodo to let him have the Ring.
