The old Italian woodcarver Geppetto carves that a wooden doll and names him Pinocchio. Geppetto wishes Pinocchio could be a real boy. The doll is brought to life by the blue fairy, who informs him that he can become a real boy if he proves to be "brave, truthful and unselfish." The Jiminy Cricket tries to guide Pinocchio in matters of right and wrong. Pinokkio's attempts to become a real boy involve encounters with all sorts of unsavory characters. Pinokkio still has a lot to learn!
For example, he lets con artists Honest John and Gideon convince him not to go to school and become an artist, and he goes to Preasure Island, a place where children do whatever they want. Jiminy tries to convince Pinocchio that those are not smart choices. Fortunately, Jiminy Cricket manages to save Pinocchio and together they go back to Geppetto's house.
Once there, they discover that Geppetto has left to look for Pinokkio, and that he has been devoured in the sea by the whale Monstro. Pinokkio decides to dive into the sea to look for his father. Jiminy accompanies him because he has no intention of abandoning him. After a search on the sea floor, they eventually find Monstro, who also devours Pinokkio. Jiminy tries to get the whale to open its mouth to follow his friend. Eventually, Monstro spits out Pinocchio and Geppetto, and Pinocchio and his father are saved. The Blue Fairy rewards his rescue by turning Pinocchio into a real boy. And Jiminy is awarded a badge for his services as a conscience.
