Of course we don't have to explain R2-D2 to all Star Wars fans. This world famous robot from the successful Star Wars film series is a real fan-favourite. R2-D2 can also be built with LEGO® and this is now possible with two different sets. These are the LEGO® 10225 from 2012 and the newest LEGO® 75308 from 2021. In this article we will explain the differences between the two sets, so you can decide which one you like best.
We start with the similarities between the 2 sets. Both the 10225 and the 75308 are 31 centimetres high and 19 centimetres wide. There are also hardly any differences in terms of appearance. The 10225 looks a bit more modern and sloping, so you could say it looks a bit more realistic.
The biggest differences are in the extra functions of the set. For starters, it's much easier to extend R2-D2's third support leg in the LEGO® 75308. The 10225 requires you to do this by hand by following a few steps and is therefore a lot trickier. The head of the latest R2-D2 set also includes an extendable periscope and the lightsaber of Star Wars hero Luke Skywalker. The 10225 only has a 360-degree rotating head, which the latest set also has.
There are also some differences based on retail price. While the 10225 had a retail price of €180 in 2012, this set is now hardly available at all. Because of this, the set has become more of a collector's item, making the price a bit higher than € 180. At ToyPro we also sell the 75308 and it only costs € 170 thanks to the 15% discount you get on this set!
Relive classic Star Wars moments as you build this exceptionally detailed R2-D2 LEGO droid figure building set for adults. The brilliant new-for-May-2021 design is packed with authentic details, including a retractable mid-leg, rotating head, opening and extendable front hatches, a periscope that can be pulled up and turned, and Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber hidden in a compartment in the head.
This cool construction display model comes with a buildable display stand, featuring an information plaque, R2-D2 LEGO droid figure and an exclusive Lucasfilm 50th anniversary LEGO brick, to complete an awesome centrepiece for your home or workplace.
