How realistic is the LEGO® 21327 Typewriter really?

Recently we wrote an article about the LEGO® 21327 Typewriter and all its features. This set is for sale in our webshop since October 1st and is without a doubt a very cool recreation of a typewriter. However, Sariel wondered how realistic this LEGO® typewriter really is. He investigated this by comparing the LEGO® 21327 with a real, classic typewriter from a century ago!

LEGO® 21327 versus real typewriter

Of course, unlike the other typewriter in Sariel's video, the LEGO® 21327 doesn't really work. Although the LEGO® version has a lot of nice details of a real typewriter, Sariel doesn't expect that you can type entire letters with the LEGO® version. The video is meant to take a better look at the details the LEGO® designers put in the typewriter.

Sariel compares the two typewriters on size, weight, sound, keyboard and functions. The LEGO® version is logically a lot lighter, but turns out to be a lot bigger than the real typewriter. When you compare the sound of the keys, you do notice a difference according to Sariel. Although the LEGO® typewriter sounds surprisingly convincing and mechanical, the real typewriter makes a much louder and sharper sound.

Also the keyboard differs a lot according to Sariel. Where the keys of the LEGO® version feel a bit thin and moving, the real keys are a lot firmer. Also each key of the real typewriter has 3 characters as opposed to the one character on the LEGO® keys. Finally Sariel compares the 2 in functionality and there is no doubt about which typewriter is the winner. Because the designers of the LEGO® version mainly focused on the looks, the real typewriter is the clear winner.

We would like to thank Sariel for this interesting video. Many of our readers will already be familiar with Sariel's videos as we regularly write about his work here at ToyPro. This smart guy is crazy about LEGO® Technic and has a pretty good understanding of it. So do you want to see more about LEGO® Technic? Then be sure to take a look at his Youtube channel!

About LEGO® 21327 Typewriter

alt_tekst

Unplug from your digital life and return to simpler times by building this LEGO® Ideas model of an old-fashioned typewriter (21327). The design is inspired by the typewriter of Ole Kirk Kristiansen, the founder of the LEGO Group, and moves and sounds just like the real thing. The middle typing arm comes up when you press a letter and is connected to the carriage that moves over the paper while typing. There is also a roll that you can wrap real paper around.
