The ghost students were once the students of Master Yang. However, when Yang tried to use the Yin blade to gain immortality, he cursed himself, his students and his temple. Anyone who enters it and does not leave until sunrise gets turned into a ghost and has to serve Yang forever. When Cole was tricked into bringing the Yin blade back to the temple, Yang's students had to fight the ninja while Yang opened a portal to mortality. They were defeated, but eventually managed to get their human forms back.
