How to best clean LEGO®.

LEGO® is a real user good that lasts a long time. It is therefore logical that LEGO® can get dirty and soiled. Many people buy LEGO® second-hand and we can well imagine that you want to clean second-hand or old LEGO® parts well before you or your children use them. Fortunately, LEGO® is easy to clean. We will therefore explain the best way to wash LEGO® in this article.

Remove dust

If you have built-up sets and want to remove dust from them, you can do so with the special ToyPro Brick Cleaner. With the soft brush and the high suction power of this vacuum cleaner you will have everything dust-free in no time.

LEGO® cleaning by hand

LEGO® itself recommends cleaning LEGO® bricks and other parts by hand at up to 40°C. LEGO® writes that a higher temperature may affect the quality of the parts. However, you can add a mild detergent to the water. If you do this, you do need to rinse the LEGO® with water afterward. Electronic parts such as cables, motors and battery compartments can be wiped clean with alcohol. LEGO® advises not to put parts in the dishwasher or washing machine. We personally recommend being extra careful with LEGO® with prints or stickers and these are best cleaned with a dry brush or toothbrush. If your LEGO® smells musty, you can add a little vinegar to the water and leave the LEGO® in it for 10 minutes. Do rinse your LEGO® well after this. It is best to let the cleaned LEGO® dry in the air. LEGO® writes that you should never dry wet LEGO® parts in the oven, microwave or with a hairdryer.

Cleaning LEGO® in the washing machine

LEGO® thus advises not to clean LEGO® parts in the washing machine. However, practice tells us that this is quite possible. We will therefore explain how to clean LEGO® in the washing machine. If you want to clean your LEGO® in the washing machine, it is at your own risk. Grab a pillowcase, laundry bag or net that you can close off. To be safe, you can also put two on top of each other. Put your LEGO® blocks in here. Then set your washing machine on rinse cycle at 40°C maximum. Let the LEGO® dry in the air (do not use the spin cycle). We advise you not to wash LEGO® with a print in the washing machine, as this may cause the print to be lost. It is best to clean printed LEGO® by hand.

Cleaning yellowed or discolored LEGO®.

Older LEGO® can start to discolor a bit and you can see, for example, that white LEGO® bricks can turn a yellow color. You can try to restore the original color of the LEGO® by soaking it in a bath of baking soda or light chlorine solution. You may have to repeat this a few times. After you have done this, then clean and rinse the LEGO® thoroughly.

Cleaning or washing DUPLO®.

LEGO® DUPLO® is exactly the same as normal LEGO®. So you can clean DUPLO® by hand at up to 40°C or with the rinse program of the washing machine. The latter is again at your own risk.
