Raven: a GBC built with the LEGO 42168

Raven: The Great Ball Contraption built from the parts from the LEGO 42168 John Deere Forage Harvester is an extraordinary Great Ball Contraption. Designed by PV Productions, this GBC stands out for its combination of technical reliability and an almost living character. All functions were realized with parts from a single Technic set.

Designed as a full-fledged GBC module

Raven is intended not just as a stand-alone creation, but as a full-fledged GBC module that can run smoothly in a larger setup. In the design, great attention was paid to constant ball throughput, stable timing and smooth transfer to other modules. This is in line with the requirements within the GBC community.

Character through mechanical expression

What sets Raven apart from many other GBCs is its expression. Through clever use of moving elements, the machine takes on a distinct face and appears to react to the balls it processes. These movements are entirely mechanical and use existing features and shapes from the John Deere Forage Harvester set.

Creative reuse of Technic parts

According to the designer, it was a conscious challenge to stay within the limitations of one set. Parts that normally have a farming function were used for lifting, guiding and dispensing balls. In doing so, Raven demonstrates how versatile LEGO Technic is, even beyond the original model.

Inspiration for builders and fans

Raven is a good example of how an official LEGO Technic set can serve as the basis for a completely new concept. The project inspires builders to look beyond the instruction booklet and experiment with alternative models, GBCs and mechanical creations.
