Sirius Black, also known as Sniper or Snuffle, was the best friend of Harry Potter's father, James Potter. Consequently, James and his wife Lily also asked him to become Harry's godfather.
Sirius grew up with his parents in a suburb of London. Sirius disliked most of his relatives because he disagreed with their view of thoroughbreds. Virtually everyone in his family was sorted into Zwadderich, and when he was sorted into Gryffindor, things at home , at 12 Grimboud Square, only got nastier. With the exception of his cousin Andromeda Tops, everyone was unkind to Sirius. Andromeda is therefore "his favorite niece."
