Peregrin Took, or Pippin for short, is quite small and has a large head (and feet) of gold curly hair. Pepin is often quite reckless, comes across as bold and is attached to the comforts of Hobbit life in the Shire. Pepin helps his friend Frodo Baggins with his task of destroying the One Ring of Evil to save Middle-earth.
During the journey to Rivendell and the subsequent journey with the Journeying Company, Pepin is swept up in events and has little control over them himself. That he is allowed to go with the Journeying Company he owes mainly to the wizard Gandalf who convinces the Elf Prince Elrond that friendship is of greater importance in this matter than acknowledged heroism.
